The Mountain Guides Society of Courmayeur was formed as an association in 1850.
With the aims of overseeing the technical and cultural preparation of its members, to lend their assistance for rescue services, to organise locally ascents and expeditions for rescue, to work together with the Regional Councillorship for Tourism to give technical and administrative advice, to work with the Valley of Aosta Mountain Rescue team, to carry out promotional activities, to research and study the formation of the profession of Mountain guide with the aim of improving the efficiency of the organisation.
The Mountain Guides Society, ever since it was formed, has provided mountaineers with a reference place particularly for the information available on the conditions of routes and weather forecasts.
To provide a fuller picture for mountaineers information has always been inter-exchanged with Chamonix, in particular with the Office of Haute Montagne.
This project aims to better organise the flow of information making use of the instruments technology provides.
