the Vallée Blanche descent begins at New Torino Hutat 3375 mt. and ends in Chamonix 1037 mt., a 24 Km descent in the heart of the Mont Blanc Massif on the Glaciers of the Colle del Gigante descending into the Valley of Chamonix across the Mar de Glace on the Sea of Ice. How long does it takes
:
Mont Blanc cable car reaches Ancient Torino Hut in 15 minutes from La Palud. From here it is necessary to walk about 10 minutes along a covered metal staircase to reach the New Torino Hut. All the skiing equipment will be trasposted by a lift: we recommed to use comfortable shoes to walk over the staircase. At the New Torino Hut it will be possible to change boots and prepare for the descent. Outside the Hut along a path prepared by snowcats we will reach in 15 minutes the Flambeaux Col. From here it is about 4 to 5 hours to Chamonix on skis, depending on how much time is spent taking photos, having a picnic lunch and sunbathing at 4.000 mt. After the traditional French beer in town, return to Courrmayeur by bus through the Mont Blanc Tunnel takes about 30 – 40 minutes.

When is the best time:
The Vallée Blanche descent is possible from Christmas to the beginning of May. During January and February snow and weather conditions are generally excellent along the whole descent. From the beginning of March and for all of April the snow is usually transformed to spring snow. It is probable that during these months it will be necessary to walk for part of the descent or to take the Montenvers cogwheel train to reach Chamonix. Considering the last couple years’ weather conditions of not abundant snowfall, the recommended period is in January and February when the snow conditions generally allow you to ski to Chamonix.
