"Society Guide Alpine Courmayeur - the first mountain guides association to be established in Italy and the second one in the world - was among the earliest organizations committed to spreading the knowledge of mountains and promoting the culture of alpinism. In 1850, the pioneers of such a noble profession came together in the aim to organize, within the framework of a permanent and prestigious institution, an activity which had by then become the cornerstone of mountain tourism. Since then, many Guides have forged the reputation of excellence of the Società and the town of Courmayeur."
